Career

Pre-debut

Xiumin was born in Seoul and grew up in Guri, Gyeonggi Province. He has a younger sister whose identity he kept secret at his mother’s request. He learned martial arts and has a black belt in Kendo and Taekwondo. He also trained in Wushu and Fencing. He is an avid fan of football and is an honorary ambassador of the Korea Football Association.

Xiumin auditioned for JYP Entertainment in 2008 but was rejected. He then won second place in the SM Everything Contest 2008 and became a trainee through SM Entertainment’s Casting System.

Debut with EXO

Xiumin was revealed as the seventh member of EXO in January 2012. The group debuted on April 8, 2012, with the mini album Mama.
