Early Life and Career

Seungmin was born on September 22, 2000, in Seoul, South Korea. His birth name is Kim Seung Min (김승민). He has an older sister. He moved to Los Angeles, USA when he was in the fourth grade and lived there for three months. Seungmin learned English there and became fluent in the language. He also developed an interest in singing after listening to Zion.T’s “Two Melodies”.

He auditioned for JYP Entertainment in 2017 after winning second place in JYPE’s 13th Open Audition. Seungmin joined the company and trained for two years before joining the survival show Stray Kids in 2017. He was introduced as the vocalist and producer of the group. He debuted with Stray Kids on March 26, 2018, with the mini album I am NOT. Since then, he has been actively promoting the group and releasing various songs in different genres and languages. He has also participated in writing and composing some of the songs for the group, such as “Mixtape #4”, “You Can STAY”, and “Here Always”.

Personality and Interests

Seungmin is often described as the sunshine or snail of the group by his fellow members and fans. He is playful, cheerful, and affectionate with everyone. He likes to smile a lot and make others happy. Seungmin is also very polite, respectful, and humble.

He enjoys writing in his diary, listening to music, and eating. His favorite season is autumn and his favorite color is purple. Seungmin favorite food is eggs and he loves oranges and strawberries. His role model is DAY6’s Wonpil.

 He also has a YouTube channel called Dandy Boy Seungmin’s Mix where he uploads his song covers.

Achievements and Future Plans

Seungmin has achieved many things as a member of Stray Kids. He has won several awards with the group, such as Mnet Asian Music Awards, Golden Disc Awards, Seoul Music Awards, Gaon Chart Music Awards, and more. Seungmin has also performed in various countries and regions, such as Japan, Thailand, Australia, the USA, Europe, and more.

He has also shown his individual talents through various projects. He has released solo covers of songs by Jung Seung Hwan, Huh Gak, Kwon Jin Ah, Bruno Mars, Shawn Mendes, and more on SKZ-RECORD. Seungmin has also appeared as a special MC on Show! Music Core and After School Club. In October 2021, he released “Here Always”, Part 7 of the soundtrack for 갯마을 차차차 (Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha). This marks his first solo release and is also the first member of Stray Kids to do so.

He hopes to continue growing as an artist and a person with Stray Kids. He wants to explore more genres of music and challenge himself with new things. Seungmin also wants to communicate more with his fans (STAYs) and express his gratitude to them.
