Irene, also known as Bae Joo-hyun, is a South Korean singer, rapper, dancer, and actress. She is the leader of the girl group Red Velvet and a member of its sub-unit Red Velvet – Irene & Seulgi. Early Life and Career
Irene was born on March 29, 1991, in Daegu, South Korea. She graduated from Haknam High School and attended Beijing Haidian Foreign Language Shi Yan School before leaving for South Korea to attend Yonsei University as an exchange student. She majored in Applied Music at the Seoul Institute of the Arts.
In 2009, she auditioned for SM Entertainment’s global casting system in Qingdao and became a trainee.
