Hyunjin: The Prince of Stray Kids
Hyunjin is a member of the South Korean boy group Stray Kids under JYP Entertainment. He is the main dancer, sub-rapper, and visual of the group. He was born on March 20, 2000, in Seoul, South Korea. Hyunjin has a pet dog named Kkami and a beauty mark under his left eyelid. He is also known as Jinnie, Jin, The Prince, Drama Llama, Hyunnie, Night Fury, and Flour Boy. Early life and careerHyunjin was scouted by JYP Entertainment when he was on a shopping trip with his mother during middle school. He joined the company as a trainee with no skill and had to train for two years. Hyunjin got interested in dancing by watching the senior trainees performing on stage and practiced more by studying various types of dance at SOPA (School of Performing Arts Seoul), where he graduated in 2019. He was officially revealed as a participant in the survival show Stray Kids on October 12, 2017. Hyunjin debuted with the group on March 26, 2018, with the mini album I am NOT and its title track “District 9”. He is part of the sub-unit Dance Racha along with Lee Know and Felix. Achievements and activitiesHyunjin has shown his talent and versatility in various fields. He was a fixed MC on Show! Music Core from February 16, 2019, to February 20, 2021. He also joined KBS’ group project BBANGBBANGZ along with Yoon Sanha, Choi Bomin, and Lee Daehwi in December 2019. Hyunjin has released several solo works as part of the SKZ-PLAYER series, such as a dance performance he choreographed on “When the Party’s Over” by Billie Eilish in May 2020, and a self-composed song “miss you” in December 2020.
He went on a hiatus in February 2021 following school bullying allegations. He resumed activities in June 2021 with his appearance in the music video for the digital single Mixtape: OH. In October 2021, he was selected as STUDIO CHOOM’s “Artist Of The Month”, with a special dance performance on “Motley Crew” by Post Malone. Personality and interestsHyunjin is described as a charming, confident, and charismatic person. He likes to listen to Dean and Crush’s songs, read books, and play sports. His favorite food is sushi and his favorite fruit is watermelon. He can speak basic English and used the name Sam when he lived in Las Vegas for a short while when he was six or seven years old. However, he is very close to his fellow members, especially I.N., whom he helps a lot. Hyunjin also has a playful and humorous side, often making jokes and funny faces. He talks in his sleep and is the hardest to wake up. He says he looks like his mom but with his dad’s nose.
