Z Tao, also known as Huang Zitao or Tao, is a Chinese rapper, singer-songwriter, actor, and producer. He is a former member of the South Korean-Chinese boy band Exo and its sub-unit Exo-M. He left the group in 2015 and launched his solo career in China and the US, releasing several albums and singles. Z Tao has also starred in various films and TV shows, such as You Are My Sunshine, Railroad Tigers, The Brightest Star in the Sky, and Negotiator. Early Life and Career
Z Tao was born on May 2, 1993, in Qingdao, Shandong, China. He started learning Wushu at a young age and became a student-athlete. In 2010, he auditioned for SM Entertainment’s global casting system in Qingdao and became a trainee.
In 2012, he debuted as a member of Exo and its Chinese sub-unit Exo-M, with the stage name Tao. He was mainly responsible for rapping and martial arts in the group. The group gained popularity with their hit songs such as “MAMA”, “Growl”, “Overdose” and “Call Me Baby”.
 Solo Activities and Achievements
In 2015, Z Tao set up his own personal agency, Z.TAO Studio, to manage his solo activities in China. He also released his autobiography, Standing Firm at 24, which became a bestseller. He filed a lawsuit against SM Entertainment to terminate his contract and left Exo.
Z Tao made his solo debut with the digital EP TAO, which was followed by four more EPs and four studio albums, including Namanana (2018), which marked his US debut, and Z.TAO (2020), which featured collaborations with American artists such as Diplo, Will.i.am and Jason Derulo.
